One of the best things about hitting up the City Pharma in Paris is getting the ludicrous deals on Vichy sunscreen. On our honeymoon two years ago in Paris, we were only just starting what would be our three weeks of roasting in the July sun from the city of love right down to Positano, in the south of Italy.
If you’ve been reading this blog for a long time, you’ll know that my husband patiently waited outside the pharmacy for me for about an hour while I fought the throngs of women in the very narrow aisles for all the deals I could get on French skincare products. However, I have to say, of everything I bought, getting a ginormous tube of Vichy SPF 50 for less than 10 euro made me the happiest. I’ve never even see the large format I got here in Canada before. Not only did we not burn, but this find really cemented our love for Vichy sunscreen.
Since then, Vichy has not only come out with new additions to their sunscreen range, but they’ve also improved on it, protecting you from both UVA and UVB rays.
To help force my husband into wearing sunscreen if he is working on construction projects outside, he’s been toting around (and applying) the very portable Ultra-Light Lotion in SPF 50. It’s very fluid and feels light and non-greasy on the skin.
If I learned anything from my sun damage photo, I learned that I need to be more careful and diligent about applying sunscreen around my eyes. I was always put off by the messaging on sunscreen bottles to ‘avoid the eye area’, but Vichy’s SPF 60 Ultra Protection Stick for Sensitive Zones can help protect more delicate areas around the eyes, ears, lips and nose. The stick is also available in SPF 30, but since I am quite fair, I opted for the higher protection factor. It applies like a light lip balm–hydrating, without being heavy.
And lastly, their beloved sun cream. This lotion is just a good, classic sunscreen without any artificial fragrances–it just does it’s job, and does it well. The opaque white cream absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave an oily or greasy residue. This is my favourite type of body sunscreen because you know where you’re applying it (can be hard with sprays and the wind), and you know you’ll be well protected.
Of course, while you’re protecting your skin, don’t forget to shield your eyes from the sun with good sunglasses. Look for UV 400 or polarized lenses to block the rays from your eyes, and the sunglasses will help protect the skin around your eyes.
