While having my makeup applied a few weeks ago, the makeup artist told me that my skin was quite dehydrated. I was surprised, I apply moisturizer twice a day! Sometimes more! Plus, I drink more water than anyone I know! How much more hydrated can I be? I went home and looked at the mirror and realized that my skin was dehydrated, I could see it in the crepe-iness of the skin around my eyes, my cheeks and my forehead.
Since then, I have been wondering how I can beef up the hydration. Oilier skin is meant to age slower than dry skin, so that was a good enough reason for me to add more moisture to my routine. Not to mention that hydrated skin has a healthier glow to it.
While Jordan and I were suitshopping in Toronto, we stopped by Holt Renfrew’s beauty floor (of course), and as I saw the La Mer counter, I thought to myself, why not just try out that illustrious cream. The salesgirl applied the amazingly thick cream to the back of my hand to demonstrate the application method (yes, La Mer cream has an application method–warm the cream between your fingers first and then press it into the skin). I was amazed at how much younger my hand immediately looked, and how hydrated and soft my hand for the rest of the day and that night, I could not stop stroking it. Basically, it was love at first sight with this (very expensive) cream. One day I hope to be able to use it.
Luckily for my dry, dry face, I happened to receive a sample of Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque. Apply it and wait 10 minutes, remove the excess, but leave a layer for your skin to absorb throughout the night while you sleep. I expected this to be a thicky, creamy formulation, but it’s more of a silky gel. I applied a layer to my face and around the eyes, felt a light burning sensation…then within a minute my face had totally absorbed the mask. I guess my face was dry. I applied another layer, and when the time came to towel off the excess, there wasn’t really any excess. So I left the thin remaining layer of it on my face for drink up for the night.
I woke up with a more younger-looking, plumped up face. The skin around my eyes looked so much better–the lines had faded, and the skin was smooth. My skin had a more even and luminous tone.
I really didn’t expect this mask to work as well as it did since my skin absorbed a lot of it so quickly, but I think that I will definitely be incorporating this mask into my routine before the wedding. Apparently my skin needs the moisture!
